Shut In OST

Johnson Zhang, our music composer for Shut In, surprised us with this soundtrack on our screening day! (Looks damn cool rite! hehz!)

Okay, I’m just too lazy to type out how the music came about for Shut In, so here’s an exerpt from our final report:

Composing the music score for Shut In was another challenge due to the complex emotions portrayed by the characters in the story. To enable the music composer to better understand the feel and emotions of the characters and story, we had the composer on set during production to give him a head start to envision the right tune and melody and even before the rough cut; our music composer already had the main titles ready. It took two months, from conceptualisation to final scoring, and during which, the composer was inspired by a few music scores. The original score for Shut In was inspired from Danny Elfman’s Corpse Bride (2005) pitched percussion and vibraphones and Yann Tiersen’s piano-strings in Amelie (2001).

I was happy to hear that many who watched our film loved the music too! As an OST fan, that to me, is very re-assuring. Great movie soundtracks allows one to relive unforgettable scenes (and its emotions) and I hope that Shut In’s music would be no different for our audience. :) Here’s to Johnson! Thanks for your wonderful and unforgettable music.

Filament 08 was a success!

On the 2nd and 3rd of May 2008, we had the first private screening for all our video (and one audio) FYPs at the Singapore Arts Museum.

Let’s just say that after months of gruelling work (and some bouts of depression in between), we were extremely happy to hear all the great reviews some of the audience gave our film. Day in day out of staring at the same pix over and over again (or hearing the same audio replay over and over again for one of us :p) sort of desensitised us to the whole process of filmmaking. It was this nite (and the audience) that truly reminded us why we even bother to do the things we did or to work as hard as we did. You guys were entertained and hopefully enlightened as well (we are after all a comms school ya know; no message, no gain, no point -.-”) and that is what really matters.

Thanks a bunch to our cast, crew, friends and relatives who joined us on the first day when Shut In was screened. You guys were, as usual, fantastic! :) Guess you guys know that already, needless to say without our power cast and power crew and all your invaluable advice (albeit given at the gunpoint sometimes ;p) none of this would be happening! Pictures will be posted somewhere sometime soon hehz. So stayed tuned!

Next stop, film festivals! hopefully… -.-
